Downsize Fashion Show Sept 2010
An expectant hush fell over the room at the Silver Springs Moran Hotel on Sunday the 5th of September. The date was key for those involved, as it marked the culmination of months of fundamental changes in their lives, and the place was packed with friends, family and curious onlookers.
The occasion-the Downsized Fashion Show. The causes were worthy-the Leukaemia Association Fund at the Mercy Hospital, and an electronic whiteboard for the children at Knocknaheeny Primary School. The MC for the evening was the irrepressible Brendan Courtney of RTE’s ‘Off the Rails’ fame; a wickedly witty man and even more so in the flesh.
Backstage, though, no divas demanding nicotine and adulation; no waspish designers and no appalling attitudes; instead a cadre of ordinary people nervously awaited their turn on the catwalk. These were Keith Anthony’s people; a selection of folks who through their own hard work and Keith’s unflagging support and direction had become happy, healthy shadows of their former selves.
As Brendan cleared his throat the two huge screens flashed into action, and one by one the members of the Keith Anthony Weight Loss Program took to the stage as a stunned and delighted audience cheered their support. On screen; the fleshy ‘Before’ photos; cause for much pre-show groaning amongst the participants-on the catwalk, the glowing, gorgeous ‘Afters’ in their finery, every one beaming and proud.
This was an emotional event; positive, uplifting and contagious in its joy-and the results of Keith Anthony’s sensible, unfussy, no gimmicks program spoke for themselves and made believers of us all.
The businesses involved were Sam McCauley, who generously provided fabulous goody bags for everyone; Jane Boutique of Kinsale; Fran and Jane; New Look; MacGuy Carlton and Jack Doyle, who provided the beautiful clothes in sizes the thrilled models never thought they’d ever get into again. Hair Inc. and Laoise by Striking Image gilded the lilies to perfection and completed the models’ transformations.
This phenomenal Fashion Show with a difference will be an annual event-it could be you on that catwalk next year. Give Keith Anthony a call and see for yourself.
