EMOTIONAL EATING

Research has found that emotional eaters tend to gravitate towards high-calorie, sweet, salty and fatty foods. The connection between stress and eating has roots in brain chemistry. Faced with a real threat, the fight-or-flight reaction kicks in and suppresses appetite temporarily.

Our emotions are often entangled with our eating patterns, and to understand why we eat what we do, when we do, we must make the connection between our feelings and our habits. For most overweight people, whether they realise it or not, eating patterns and relationships with food are often determined how we feel.
